Compassionate, caring and over-delivered

"I won't trust anyone else other than AMK Compensation Lawyers. They are compassionate, caring and provide a personal, human touch in tough situations. They made sure to provide the best outcome and actually over-achieved and got a better result due to their knowledge and long standing within the industry."

I can't believe how lucky I was

"I truly believe that if it was not for Michael and his team at AMK Compensation Lawyers, I might not be here writing this review today. Michael is an incredibly smart man and has worked as a defence lawyer for the insurers before starting his own firm. He foresaw and knew every tactic they used before they used it. To this day I am still blown away how Michael and AMK Compensation Lawyers got the insurer to a really good settlement when I was backed into a corner. I am forever grateful."

In a league of their own

"Michael Singh was an incredible help during a very difficult recovery. He was patient, kind, and professional, providing a no-nonsense assessment that honestly accounted for both the physical injuries and the mental health toll. It's rare to find a lawyer who handles every single detail personally. If we could give more than 5 stars, we would do it in a heartbeat."

01

How Should An Ipswich Worker Start A WorkCover Claim?

Tell your employer what happened, see a doctor for a work capacity certificate, and lodge with WorkCover Queensland within 6 months of the injury or diagnosis.

Do not wait to see whether a sore back or shoulder settles down by itself. Strains from warehouse and factory work around Wacol and Carole Park often get worse over the following weeks, and a claim lodged early keeps every option available.

AMK can review the claim form before it goes in, confirm the injury and how it happened are described accurately, and make sure your employer has the report on file. For the statewide picture, read our WorkCover claims guide.

02

What Does WorkCover Pay While You Recover?

An accepted claim pays weekly compensation while you are unable to work, along with reasonable medical, rehabilitation and travel expenses.

Your weekly amount depends on your normal earnings before the injury. Overtime, shift penalties and second jobs can all affect that figure, so compare your first payment against your recent pay slips.

If WorkCover decides you are fit to return and reduces or stops your payments, that decision can be reviewed. Treating doctors at Ipswich Hospital or your local GP can provide the evidence that matters most.

03

What Can You Do After A WorkCover Rejection?

Apply for a review of the decision, generally within 3 months. Plenty of rejected claims are turned around once the gaps in the evidence are filled.

Insurers commonly reject claims by arguing the injury did not happen at work, that it came from an earlier condition, or that the claim was lodged out of time. Medical reports and statements from co-workers can answer each of those arguments.

AMK prepares the review, gathers the evidence and deals with WorkCover Queensland or a self-insured employer so you can focus on recovery.

04

How Should You Handle A Notice Of Assessment?

The notice states your degree of permanent impairment (DPI) and any statutory lump sum. Any DPI of 1% or higher comes with a lump sum offer.

With a DPI under 20%, or no DPI at all, you have to choose: accept the lump sum and give up a common law claim, or decline it and pursue damages from a negligent employer. At 20% or more, you can accept the lump sum and still sue. A physical DPI and a psychiatric DPI cannot be combined to reach 20%.

The decision can be deferred, and it can be hard to undo once made. Speak to us before you sign.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is the deadline to lodge a WorkCover claim in Ipswich?

You should lodge with WorkCover Queensland within 6 months of the injury or diagnosis. Late claims are sometimes accepted where there is a reasonable excuse, but lodging early avoids that argument entirely.

My Ipswich WorkCover claim was rejected. Can it be reviewed?

Yes. A review of the decision can generally be requested within 3 months. AMK prepares the review application and the evidence that supports it.

Should I accept the lump sum offered after my impairment assessment?

Not without advice. If your DPI is under 20%, or you have none, accepting the lump sum ends any common law claim. You can defer your decision while you weigh it up.

Can I meet an AMK lawyer in person in Ipswich?

Yes. You can visit us at 15/20 Success Circuit, Augustine Heights. We can also visit you at home or in hospital, or speak by phone or video.

Does WorkCover cover casual and labour-hire workers in Ipswich?

Workers injured in the course of their employment are generally covered, including casual and labour-hire workers. Who the employer is can be less obvious in labour-hire arrangements, so check the details with us.
